200,000 illegal immigrant truck drivers will not be able to renew their CDLs today under new rule:
The rule bars many immigrants with temporary protections (asylum seekers, DACA recipients, refugees, etc.) from obtaining or renewing non-domiciled CDLs. Existing licenses are revoked as they expire (not all at once).
About 200,000 immigrant truck drivers (about 5% of U.S. CDLs) are affected, per FMCSA estimates.
It also strengthens English-language proficiency enforcement for commercial drivers.
