Seems to be a pattern here. Though the national average has spiked the last few days, to $3.109 a gallon the disparity between the most expensive state and the cheapest has increased. There are now 40 states below the national average and 10 above + DC. This shows the prices are increasing faster in the most expensive states faster than it is in the cheap states.
