Nearly one million people are set to "flee" New York - leaving behind failed leadership and broken systems. They used the word flee.

Hearing that so many are fleeing makes you wonder... what happened?

The truth is — the same thing is happening here in Alabama.

What?! Yes. It all starts locally. People give up. People don't vote. And when that happens, the very values this country was built on begin to fade.

But we have a fighter in our midst — ready to restore expectations, help teachers and students thrive, and move us up from the bottom of the education rankings in the U.S. Isn't that what America was built on? Seeing what's broken and standing up to fix it.

That's the spirit men and women have bled and died for

— the belief that this country is worth the effort. Worth protecting. Worth passing on stronger than we found it.
