CLINTON’S HYPOCRISY VS. TRUMP’S GIFT TO THE PEOPLE

It is the People’s House, and presidents have always improved it for the People. After the 1814 fire, it was rebuilt. Monroe added the porticos. Theodore Roosevelt created the West Wing. FDR added the East Wing and the emergency bunker. Truman rebuilt failing interiors and added the Truman Balcony. Eisenhower installed a putting green. Ford added a pool (paid by private donors). Nixon built the Press Briefing Room (covering FDR’s pool) and a bowling lane. The Kennedys restored history inside. Obama converted the tennis court for full court basketball. None of that was “destroying” anything.

President Donald J. Trump is doing the same: building a proper State Ballroom so future presidents do not need circus tents on the lawn. And he is funding it privately, through patriotic donors and his own money, not yours. That is not illegal, not strange, and not selfish. It is a once in a century upgrade that will serve state dinners, ceremonies, families, and tradition for generations. No historical record shows another president ever spending personal funds for a major White House addition, which makes this project one of a kind in American history.

Who refused the presidential paycheck? Three men: Herbert Hoover, John F. Kennedy, and Donald J. Trump. By law, a president must be paid, so Trump accepts one dollar and donates the rest back to the public. Service over subsidy.

Hillary Clinton’s take? “It is not his house. It is your house. And he is destroying it.” Wrong on the facts and wrong on the history. The East Wing she is mourning is not original. It dates to 1942. A modern hall in that footprint at no taxpayer expense improves capacity. The East Room seats about 200. The new ballroom ends the endless tent pavilions. Precedent? Melania Trump’s Tennis Pavilion was privately funded. Ford’s pool was donor funded. The White House Historical Association routinely funds restorations. Private generosity is normal and welcome.

Now, about the critic. Clinton’s record is not a lecture hall. It is an exhibit list:

• “Russia, Russia, Russia”: her operation financed the Steele dossier and misreported the spend.

• Servers wiped with BleachBit; subpoenaed devices smashed by staff with hammers.

• The 2001 exit haul of “gifts” and furnishings that had to be returned or paid for.

• And Benghazi: she “took responsibility,” then hid behind the bureaucracy.

Hillary, spare us the moral theater. American history is clear. Presidents add, repair, and modernize the White House. Trump is doing it the right way, without your money, so the People’s House can host the People with dignity.
