I wish people had a better understanding of the words Catholic, prior to the schism of 1054, the word as it was used, had a far different meaning.

People should look into the history of the Nicean Creed and exactly what occurred in 1054.

I'm not defending the Roman Catholic Church of today by any means, but at it's inception when all of those beautiful old churches that you are encountering on your journey were built, the difference between the Church founded in the name of Jesus Christ and his Apostles and Roman Catholisim was not at all that much different.

The word Catholic is derived from the Greek word Katholikos, which means universal or pertaining to the whole. It was used in reference to the whole church spread by the Apostles for centuries before the schism of 1054.

The purpose of the Creed was to keep the Church in line, to prevent straying from the purity of the teachings of Jesus Christ and later the Apostles.

Sorry for butting in, but I just feel that knowing the history of the Church, while always second to the Holy Bible, is something people should know.
