Attorneys for Luigi Mangione, the 27-year-old accused of killing UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson in what prosecutors have charged as an act of terrorism, are accusing the Manhattan District Attorney’s Office of serious misconduct that could upend the case.
In a Thursday court filing, the defense alleged the DA’s office issued a “fraudulent” subpoena to Aetna to secretly obtain more than 100 pages of Mangione’s confidential medical records without a court order or notifying his legal team. The subpoena falsely cited a court date and threatened Aetna with contempt if it failed to comply.
